There are countless smartphones available today where consumers are looking for various things such as different designs, features, cameras, display quality, performance, and battery life. It is also essential to know the components of these smartphones because being well-informed leads to better purchase decisions.
Display
The most considerable component of the smartphone is its display. The user viewed it as the main component because they interact with their smartphones through it. The display screen has evolved today and comes in various sizes and screen resolutions. The standard display sizes are between 4.5 to 5.7 inches, and the critical screen resolutions are 1280 x 720, 1920 x 1080, and 2560 x 1440.
Today two leading display technologies used in smartphones are LCD (liquid crystal display) and LED (light-emitting diode). The consumer can differentiate them based on placement and the type of light used. LCD needs to use a backlit to illuminate the screen while LED can produce light by itself. Therefore, it is always helpful to look at the screen type while purchasing a handset. The manufacturers are using LED screens in their top-end handsets, which indicates it is probably the better option.
Battery
Smartphone batteries are the hardware component holding vast amounts of energy that enable us to use mobile phones for hours. These are either removable or non-removable in mobile devices. Today mobile devices have lithium-ion batteries. They store the most energy in the smallest space because they are smaller and lighter than other batteries. In addition, these batteries have longer battery life. The battery’s standard capacity for most smartphones is at least 3000 mah units.
Using and replacing batteries have issues, so users must be cautious while handling and using such components.
System on a Chip or Soc
The soc is the essential component of the smartphone. It is far more than the processor of the device. It consists of a smartphone’s CPU, GPU, LTE modem, video processor, and other bits of silicon that turn it into a functional system in a phone.
Memory and Storage
Ram and memory is the main component as it is essential for the functioning of smartphones. Usage of RAM depends on the number of apps used. Smartphones RAM runs at a low voltage compared to that used in desktops. Today most mobile phones use LPDDR3 OR LPDDR4. These reduce the low voltage of these chips, which extends the smartphone’s battery life. Usage of these chips increases the efficiency and speed of smartphones.
One of the noticeable things is that the advertised storage is not the same value as running on the phone. The reason is smartphone operating systems, and pre-installed applications require the initial internal memory.
Modems
Modems are the communication components to receive and send text messages and calls. Consumers go for the fastest and most efficient category of LTE chips in smartphones. Cat. 9 LTE modem is the fastest one.
Camera
All smartphones have two cameras at the front and back. These cameras consist of three parts: the sensor, the lens, and the image processor.
One might see how sensitive the phone’s camera sensor is when light passes through the lens. Each sensor behaves differently in different smartphones.
The image processor being the part of soc is the critical component in producing photos. It processes data from a camera and turns it into an image.
Sensors
Five primary sensors in smartphones make it a ‘touch-enabled smart device.’ These are
- Accelerometer(apps use these to detect the orientation of the device and its movement)
- Gyroscope (it works with an accelerometer to see the rotation of the phone, i.e., bending the phone for game or movie)
- Digital Compass( helps to find directions for map purposes)
- Ambient Light Sensor( this automatically adjust the screen brightness according to surroundings to save battery)
- Proximity Sensor( it locks the screen, for example, during a call to avoid unwanted touch commands)
The information on the smartphone components helps purchase a smartphone that best suits your needs as you can compare various present parts.
